Why this exists
Most software comparison sites are affiliate directories. They rank by commission, describe rather than assess, and avoid saying that a popular product is bad value because saying so costs them money. The result is a genre of writing where every tool is 'a powerful solution for growing teams' and nothing is ever a mistake.
Softmarque takes the opposite position. We rank products against each other, we say when something is overpriced for what it does, and we publish the reasoning so you can disagree with it.
What we cover
Eight categories: project management, CRM and sales, marketing and email, design and creative, collaboration and docs, finance and accounting, customer support, and web and automation. Within each, we cover products that a small or mid-sized team could plausibly buy this quarter.
- Products with public pricing, so a review can be specific about cost.
- Products a reader can sign up for without a sales call.
- Products in active development, not abandonware with a live billing page.
How it is funded
Softmarque carries no affiliate links in its reviews and takes no vendor sponsorship. That constrains how fast the catalogue grows, which is why it is small and why every entry has been worked through rather than summarised from a feature matrix.
Who writes it
Reviews are published under the Softmarque Reviews byline and edited against the editorial policy on this site. Contributors disclose to editors any commercial relationship with a product under review, and are recused where one exists.
